Today I was a bit confused: A client asked me in my shop if I don’t know how to make handles….first I did not understand but then I realized that he interpreted my formal language – cups or judges without handles – as an incapacity! I laughed and showed him pots from my first tableware collection – also wheel thrown, stoneware and coated with one of my first craquele glazes -, created in 2006 and tried to explain my ‘philosophy’. And here the tea or coffee cups or bowls from the stoneware tableware collection I am producing since 2008: The whole collection is wheel thrown and consists of four different sizes of plates, three sizes of bowls, two sizes of mugs and two big bowls. The pieces are available in four different craquele glazes as seagreen, springgreen, iceblue and earthbrown and in additional in black – shiny or matt – and in matt white. Not all of the colors are always on stock, so I start to produce them after the order and then it takes about four weeks until they are ready for delivery. That is the way I am working for the tableware orders: Each piece is unique because it is wheel thrown by hand without using any forms. Working on an order for a B&B: I had to make 50 cups with saucers and plates, wheel thrown in stoneware. They are now bisquit fired and wait for the glaze: I will coat them with the celadon craquele glaze in iceblue. After a longer period of working and throwing in porcelain it was a pleasure to play with stoneware. A big vase with a blue cristal glaze together with some white porcelain cups – stilllife? Years ago I wanted to find a blue glaze, powerful in color and so I started a lot of tests untill I was happy with the blue on this vase.
