Black porcelain, teacups, handthrown and sannded, without any glaze: Today I finished trimming all the black porcelain works that I made during the week and changed to white porcelain. It is a special weather and the pieces need a lot of time to dry. Sometimes I really get nervous because I want to work a bit faster and I need all my reason to not force the time. Pottery needs its time, every potter know this and you have to adapt your flow to a lot of different factors that you cannot all influence. If you want to work against the nature of pottery, you often loose that game: The vessels will crack. During my quite long period as a potter I experienced that once. That was more than enough for me and I am waiting now more than long enough. I am grateful that my clients are patient and understand my way of working. Tomorrow I will check if the white porcelains ones will be ready for trimming – if not, I have to wait and read Patricia Highsmith. Love her thrillers.
